I’m testing to see if excluding subcategories from my RSS feed works.
Annoying Firefox Problem
I’ve been having a very annoying problem with Firefox for a while now and I can’t seem to find a way to fix it.
How it should work
I’ll type in an address into the address bar and hit the Enter key or click the arrow to go to the location I typed in.
The Problem
From time to time the “Go to the address in the Location Bar”/Hitting the Enter key will stop working. I can click the arrow or press the Enter key as many times as I like, but the page will not go to the typed address.
It continues to do this when I open New Tabs, but works fine if I open a New Window.
Getting it to work right
I have a lot of tabs open at any time, so opening a New Window doesn’t help. I normally have to Restart Firefox and hope it doesn’t have the same problem when Firefox comes back.
Possible Extension problem?
One of my friends thought it may have been a problem with an Extension, so I ask people who say they also have the problem, if they use any of the extensions I use. In my earlier Plurk on the problem, a person mentioned that they use the Add-On Better GReader, which I use.
Anyone else using this Extension and having these problems?
What’s Been Up
My 16th birthday was a couple weeks back. (I didn’t feel like posting at the time.) I couldn’t think of anything to do for my birthday in the days leading up to it, so my family and I made the best of what we could do last minute. We saw the new Indiana Jones movie!
Then over the weekend we went to see the new Batman movie for my younger brother’s birthday. It was awesome!
My Dad took time off of work to be with us the week of our birthdays, but wasn’t feeling that great during most of the days, so we didn’t get to do much with him.
On Saturday my Dad woke up wanting to go to San Francisco and at first it looked like we couldn’t go, my Mom was in bed in no real mood to go, but around noon she’d changed and we were getting ready to go!
On the way
My parents wanted to take a longer, but more interesting way to get to San Fran. We passed through Antioch, the city my best friend lived before moving to Sacramento, and stopped for lunch at In-N-Out where we had an interesting time with a guy asking for change:
- It was really chilly inside the In-N-Out, so we went to sit outside on the benches to eat.
- We’re eating when this guy comes up and asks for some change to get some fries.
- My Dad gives him all the change he has and a dollar, and the guy says thanks and walks into the restaurant.
- We start eating again, my Mom talking about how “nice it is to give” to people and “how he looked like he really needed it”.
- After about 2-3 minutes from the guy being inside the restaurant he comes out with a PO’d face, glancing over at us, and walks around the other side of the restaurant.
- My Mom starts talking about how we may have just funded his drug addiction.
Soon we’ve finished our burgers and hit the road.
A while later we’re driving over the Oakland Bay Bridge (Picture) into San Francicso! At first we drove around checking things out but not finding anything too interesting. Soon my brother and I got restless and got our parents to go to the beach!
The water in San Francisco is really cold, but it didn’t stop me from having fun skimboarding (Picture)!
After an hour or two at the beach we got hungry and went inland. My parents chose a nice restaurant, which was loaded with people, so it had to be good! They all got their orders worked out quickly, but I didn’t like the prices. $16 for Fettuccine Alfredo? Riiight. I eventually picked something I though was worth the money, I don’t remember the name, but it had shrimp and was really good (Picture)!
Then we walked around the city for a bit, but then drove back home.
Something Different
Something about this unexpected trip was different. I felt happier, more outgoing and ready to have a great time. I’m not sure why, but I think I’ve been more down and felt like I was just being taken around to other trips, rather than wanting to go. Hm.
Post Twitter updates from your site?
I’ve seen WordPress plugins that allow you to update Twitter when you add/edit/delete a post, tons of websites allowing you to post to multiple update services, and a few great tutorials on how to display your latest updates on your website.
These are all great, really appreciated, but I want to know: Is there a way to post a Twitter update from your own site?
I’d really like to be able to post updates from my site. MY site. No login box needed, I just need a form with a publish/update button. And a character counter would be appreciated.
And I’d like a tutorial, please. Not some plugin.
Either the high-pitched voice or cleavage is making me sick
I was just on YouTube, watching one of my favorite videos, when I saw a video of interest in the Promoted Videos section of the page. It’s called Twitter Whore–Twitter’s this website where people post small, personal updates to friends, which I’ve become interested in lately–and the thumbnail had cleavage, so “Whore”+Cleavage, why not watch it?
So, now, after watching both part 1 and part 2.. I honestly think the video’s made me sick. Or at least feel sick. And I don’t mean sick like 2girls1cup sick, because that’s just squirmy, I mean like I feel as if I could throw up. ![]()
So I’m wondering now, do I dislike high-pitched voices? Probably not, because I love the Chipmunk remixes of songs on YouTube.
Or do I dislike cleavage being pushed down my throat to, and this is my case, the point of possible regurgitation?
Do you guys feel sick after watching them?
Hurt myself while out skateboarding.
I was skateboarding with my friend on my rail, we were doing fine for a long time, but I wanted to try a different trick. I did them perfectly four times in a row, but on the fifth time my board wasn’t over the rail enough, so my front foot flipped the board down and over the rail. My foot crashed down on the curb and twisted.
I also hurt my wrist from falling, but it’s okay, my foot’s my largest concern.

Switching to Flock
I’d been hearing about Flock for a while, but couldn’t remember to check it out, until my friend told me he’d started using it and liked it more than Firefox, so I thought I’d check it out. When I went to download it I wanted to check out newer features, so I got the Beta, which was just fully released, and has Pownce integration!
Setting up/installing was easy and quick, soon the splash image disappeared soon, and the browser popped up. It looks nice, has big buttons that work nicely and “help me press them super fast without fail”, says Tuong.
The selling point of Flock is it’s features that allow you to easily access and post to different social sites that most people use. Most people. So there’s some features that you may or may not use. I’ve read different reviews of Flock and some people are wondering if it’s bloated/filled with too many features and saying that they used Firefox, which I think Flock’s based on, because it allowed for you to use add-ons to customize and add to the experience.
I think these are great points, as I don’t use some of the supported services and wonder if they could be loading down the browser. But I also think that having them there by default can influence someone to use such services, it’s influenced me to use Digg!
My Likes & Dislikes
Like: When you bookmark/favorite a link it can also be bookmarked directly to Del.icio.us, as well as locally!
Dislike: Del.icio.us’ Online Favorites is categorized by tags, which made me install the Del.icio.us Bookmarks Firefox Add-On to find what I most recently bookmarked. Why? No searching, hover-scrolling’s annoying, and I have a short-term memory for things like tags.
Like: The Pownce integration, easy updating of statuses right from the browser without requiring an open Pownce tab or desktop application!
Dislike: Having to open a new tab to post a link. Seriously, there’s a ton of Pownce Tools being developed with features that allow you to easily post things other than just text status updates; wtf?
Like: Remembering accounts for different sites, it allows for instant access!
Dislike: How it can’t seem to remember certain accounts. It may only be a problem for me, but having a bar telling me that Del.icio.us needs me to re-log in 2 minutes after logging back in, really gets on my nerves.
Like: Flock comes with a RSS Reader built in like Firefox and comes with a few cool subscriptions packed right in.
Dislike: How you can’t disable the feature once you select for it to auto-subscribe using a different service. The little glowing rss icon annoys me.
Dislike: To build on my hate for the built-in RSS Feed Reader, the Firefox add-on Google Reader Notifier, which I use to be reminded of Google Reader updates, can’t/won’t retrieve the new article count in Flock!
Like: Built-In Blog Editor! Seriously, this is awesome, it may influence me to blog more.
Now to Review
Here’s a recap of the things I think need to be fixed, as well things I haven’t mentioned yet! (With nice listed-goodness baked right in!)
- Better Del.icio.us Integration: Maybe just give it a while sidebar like the Firefox add-on.
- Improve Pownce Integration, please?
- Allow for us to disable certain features. *cough* Built-In RSS Feed Reader *cough*
- Integrate Google Reader
- Integrate MySpace
- Influence people to make more extensions. Maybe hold a contest?
Overall I like Flock and I’ll stick with it, I just hope they can work on my points.
Horizontal layout/design inspiration needed!
I’d like to design a horizontal layout (Not fully horizontal, but more appeal to the x-axis) but don’t have many ideas so far as to what I’d like to make, so I need your help! Please email me links to different sites that you think have a nice, fitting horizontal feel.

My first online community experience, and a creation obsession.
Back in 04 I found ProBoards, a free service that hosts a message board for you and provides limited control of how you can customize it (Just Javascript and CSS). It was at ProBoards that I joined my first online community, made one of my best friends, and learned of computer graphic design.
In 05, message boards that were specifically target at graphic designers started popping up like weeds. There was a lot of excitement, new forums with new, trendy designs (The glassy/reflection trend was like a disease) and so much optimism about creating a community others will respect.
I became addicted. Addicted to designing a whole new layout, with a new forum address, and a new name. Very few of them took off at all, but I’d keep trying.
Now, I’ve drifted from ProBoards, but the feeling of wanting to continually create, be heard, and respected lives on.

Is the Subscribe to Comments WordPress Plugin 2.5 compatible?
I’d really like to add the Subscribe to Comments Plugin to my blog, but am unsure if it’s compatible with 2.5 since it’s Plugin Directory page says it’s only compatible up to 2.3.1.
So do any of you have it up and working on your WordPress 2.5+ blogs? Please reply soon, I’d really like to know.
