Problem with the iTunes Store

Until now I’ve never used the iTunes Store and since I’m getting an iPod Touch, I want some Apps to go with it. Being my first time using iTunes, having problems with it isn’t the best first impression.

The process is pretty straight-forward, just sign up for an iTunes account, activate it by email, and start using it. Nice and simple!

Creating an Account

I filled out all the required fields but stopped at the payment methods, I have no credit card and my parents most definitely wouldn’t let me use theirs, so I chose the ‘None’ option. How nice of them to include that option for people in my position! This, it seems, may be the reason I have my next problem.

Verifying My Account By Email

Like when registering on most websites, iTunes requires you to confirm you own the email you registered with; no problem, right?

I’ve been waiting for a week to get my verification email, but nothing. No such email. I’ve used their resend feature many times and nothing’s happened.

There Are Others

After some Googling I found people on Get Satisfaction who are having the same problem and contributed to the discussion. Some said that they also chose the None payment option. Hmm.

iTunes Store Customer Support

No real support to be had on Get Satisfaction, so I tried emailing the iTunes Customer Support. This was pretty annoying and took a large amount of waiting. Many hours in between each email with them.

At one point they confirmed I had an account! I go to Sign In and am prompted to verify, again. I emailed them back telling them that wasn’t my problem and that I needed to verify my account. They replied a few hours later with this:

Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.

So now I’m waiting. When my iPod is delivered, which should be any time from now to 7pm, I won’t be able to use any special apps. Just a bunch of web apps.
